Faith?…Or Fear?…
What has become of humanity? Today I learned about a family where the 83-year-old mother is being threatened with homelessness because she is insisting on attending Church and Bible study.
What? Really, this is what our humanity has come to. Even worse, the home which she is in has been her family home for most of her life. She agreed to her son’s purchase of the home from her if he would give her a home there for the rest of her life.
This very Church active Christian insists that she be allowed to practice her Faith. The son is concerned that she will catch Covid and bring it back to his young family. While sharing his concern with his sister who lives across town, she recommended that the mother be kicked out if she continues to insist upon going to Church.
My heart is breaking. How can people justify this?
While typing this I am compelled to recall how one year ago today, my own mother was very ill. So ill that we were not sure she would make it. Even though she had completed a round of chemotherapy that appeared to eliminate and stop cancer from overwhelming her, her stomach had become paralyzed in the process. She was unable to eat anything other than liquids and was losing 10 pounds or more per week.
We spent last Thanksgiving at a movie theatre and afterwards drinking smoothies at a Starbucks. Thankfully, with diligence, prayers and fortitude mom’s stomach came back to life and she is leading a normal life today. I feel blessed to be able to celebrate life and gratitude with her and my family this Thanksgiving season. We will celebrate health as a family and share love and a meal.
We all have a Divine Right to Health and this means all of us. Can you imagine being this 83-year-old woman and having to make a choice between one family or the other? This same son will not allow his mother to speak of or practice her Faith in what is now his home. Can you imagine not being allowed to seek the soul food that you require because your son is fearful of a virus that has a great survival rate for those under 75?
Our Divine Right to Health is under assault by a campaign of fear. We know there are many ways that our immune system is strengthened and Faith is one of them. If denied the opportunity to practice her Faith because of the fear of the son, how will this impact this woman in the long run? Since we know how important the Spiritual aspect of health is, we can readily say that her Divine Right to Health is being taken away from her.
I have deep concerns about how we are treating one another during this time of Covid. There is reasonable caution and precautions and then there are inhumane acts being done in the name of safety and protection.
I share this story to hopefully open eyes to how we should all behave during this time of crisis. How we need to fully support one another’s needs in reasonable ways. I pray that this time of gratitude and sharing helps us all come together in remembrance of who we are as a family of humans.
May the Divine Bless you and Keep you.
We are in a very distressing time. These type stories are everywhere. I haven’t seen my Dad since mid March. He is in a nursing home with no visitation.
I’m so sorry Jenny. At least you desire to see your dad. These kids want to kick their own mother to the curb. 🙁
